The FDA made a change at the helm this week.  The FDA has appointed pediatrician and pharmacologist Stephen Spielberg, MD, PhD, to a newly-created position that will oversee medical products and tobacco as part of a re-organization.  As Deputy Commissioner for Medical Products and Tobacco, Spielberg will provide coordination across the FDA’s centers that deal with drugs, biologics, medical devices, and tobacco products.  Spielberg is the former dean of Dartmouth Medical School and most recently was the director of the Center for Personalized Medicine and Therapeutic Innovation at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
